It feels like yesterday we were commiserating about the query process in that little coffee shop… and now you are AGENTED! It’s been so amazing to cheer you on as you reach this goal. And I love all of your thoughts here! I am especially bad at self-promoting, but you’ve inspired me to push myself in this area.
Cort, your perseverance, belief in yourself, and sheer determination are unmatched. Anyone who has been through it knows querying is BRUTAL. Brutally slow, brutally out of our control, brutally subjective and yes--largely luck-driven by so many factors that are (again) out of our control. I love everything about your story and everything you shared here in this post. A shining example of hope and happy endings that we all need more of. You deserve all good things, and I couldn't be happier for you as you celebrate this huge milestone. Cheers to YOU, my friend!!
This whole post is so inspiring! Thanks for sharing your story, and congrats on snagging an agent. Your book sounds incredible, by the way. I also write upmarket fiction, and Long Bright River was one of my comps as well.
WOW! It sounds like you might have gotten a little lucky BUT I think mostly you’re also a genius!
Your book sounds fantastic, your agent guide, your playlist, your graphics, all of it .... amazing!
I’m just about to query my second novel. The first is buried in a drawer after a boatload of rejections ~including one from Kimberly Witherspoon😉~convinced me it wasn’t a good book.
Anyway, I’m excited for you and will be stalking your TL for ideas for book 2. Thanks for sharing this.
You are such an inspiration! I’m so so happy for you. I can’t wait for it to happen to me too. Thanks for the encouragement!
Thank you so much! It feels like it will never happen. But IT WILL. Get ready for it!

If you won't promote yourself, I will promote the hell out of you! :-D Consider me your hype girl! Thank you for all of your support! :)
Thanks, friend. I so appreciate you!
At the point where I'm feeling super 'this'll never happen', Cortney Casey gives me hope. Interesting and really helpful piece.
So glad it was helpful, Helen! :) Thanks for reading!
Congratulations! Your book sounds awesome, and I'm thankful for the words of encouragement. Glad this post introduced me to you!
